| Grace | It is not mistakes
and changes that cause a church to fall apart. It is the unwillingness
of people to adapt to changes and to give grace for mistakes that causes
it.

| Marketplace Success | Few parents have the bold confidence to
care more for their children's happiness than for their marketplace success.
Marketplace success with all its inherent trappings seems to be the antitheses
of happiness. No one ever wrote poetry about it. No one ever credited success
with saving a marriage or encouraging children. We have never heard of
one on his death bed wishing he had spent more time in business. Success
in the market place is its own end, valued for the experience itself. It
is hedonistic, a trip that is satisfying to the ego. It is a pitiful measure
of a man, but one by which many secure their identity. Those who sacrifice
to pass on wealth to their children usually sacrifice their children. Those
who sacrifice their children's youth to professional education, with the
goal of marketplace success, sacrifice their children on the altar of vanity.

| Consistency
|
A mother describes her dilemma: "I get so frustrated
with the children. No matter how may times I tell them or spank them, they
just do the same thing again. We just go around and around.
" When parents give a command in a frenzied state of anger, the children take it seriously only as long as the parent is "hot." They interpret the parents command to be unreasonable and temporary, lasting only as long as the temper. If however, you give a solemn and forceful command when you are not at all emotionally wrought, the children assume that it is a well thought out command and not based on a temporary state of mind. When their disobedience does not upset you, but still meets with swift and sure penalty, they will believe they really are under new management. If, and only if, you are absolutely consistent, meeting every transgression with swift penalty, then they will quickly adapt themselves to the new order. They will do the incredible. They will obey. You have tried everything else. How about trying consistency, 100% CONSISTENCY, every day, when it is convenient and when it is not, for their sakes and for yours? You need the rest.
